Who we are

St. James’ is the Church of England parish church for the NW of Yeovil, together with our sister church of St. Peters Westfield. We serve most of the area north of the Westlands site, covering Abbey Manor, Larkhill, Preston Road and Westfield.

We are a community of people trying to worship and follow Jesus, church1and to work out what that means in the 21st century in our local community. St. James’ meets both in the medieval church building on Preston Road, and in the Abbey Manor Community Centre. Alongside Sunday worship, many are members of midweek ‘cell groups’, meeting in homes to pray, encourage and learn together.

St. James’ is strongly involved in local primary schools, and has groups for children and youth, as well as running midweek groups for parents and toddlers, and social groups for older people. You’ll find St. James’ people 7 days a week working in hospitals, running businesses, making helicopters, supporting neighbours, parenting children, and winning pub quizzes (occasionally!).

Our beautiful medieval church building is the centre for dozens of family celebrations each year on the occasion of baptism or weddings, and 5,000 people per year use the building. With a growing community, and a congregation that no longer fit in the seats available (!), we have recently undertaken a reordering project to make St. James warm, welcoming and accessible for the increasing number of people who worship here, and who want time and space to pray and seek God.
